Oak Grove Freedman's Cemetery Memorial
The Freedman's Cemetery located in Salisbury, NC served as a burial ground for Salisbury's African American population dating back to 1770. A renovation and memorial was completed in 2005 including a design in the crosswalk that immulates an African textile pattern. Design Team: Maggie Smith, Artist from Bainbridge Island, WA; Sam Reynolds, ASLA of Reynolds & Jewell Landscape Architecture in Raleigh, NC

McKinley Avenue at Ball State University was recently given a makeover. Clay pavers were placed on sidewalks and crosswalks to make a hazardous street safer for pedestrians. Crosswalks lead foot traffic to appropriate crossings and oncoming traffic has a visual warning of the upcoming pedestrian crossings. And, as you can see from the photo, the design creates a striking hardscape!
